Guavatron, Electric Kif, Tropico Blvd, MiniM: BRILLIANT NIGHT!

On paper, the lineup put together by Guavatron and Floridian Social Club in St. Petersburg looked titanic. The actual show on Friday, December 16 shot several light years beyond that. We will keep words to a “MiniM-um” and let the superb photographs of Chuck Smalling  / Funk Eye Media  and Dan Fer / DJF Workshops: Photography & Multi-Media and the brilliant audio recordings of Marc Foster / St Pete Taper tell the real story. Because it was magic from start to finish.

Our Fool's Engagement Review on MusicFestNews

We had such a great time at Fool’s Engagement last month and we cannot wait to hit the festivals again!

We had a great write-up by Scott Hopkins at MusicFestNews.

The River Stage simply exploded with a massive Tropico Blvd set, best we’ve ever heard from them. Miguel Lantigua and Audrey Short (both guitar and vocals) led the band through an outstanding set of music. They truly raised their profile with this show. “Drunk Uncle” was blazing hot. During “Haterz,” MC Nook came up to rap. Then Sgammato, the unofficial artist at large for the weekend, jumped up. He was joined by Tropico’s Cody Moore (who also plays in Anthill Cinema and The Hip Abduction), and they went toe to toe. This was the best saxophone outing contest I’ve ever witnessed, a real jazz delight. Dan Gaily (bass) and Adam Mann (drums) also took a killer duet.

Gulfport invites you to the 19th Annual Geckofest, celebrating the end of summer with its largest festival of the year, honoring this waterfront village’s unofficial mascot and favorite reptile, the Gecko!

The streets of the waterfront village will be filled with live music on two stages, hundreds of food, art and craft vendors, kids’ activities, and up close and personal street performances by a bevy of acrobats, magicians, daredevils, dancers, aerialists, escape artists, fire eaters, balloon artists and costumed characters.

This year’s theme, chosen by public voting on the Gecko Ball Facebook page, is “Geckos of The Round Table”! Think King Arthur, Merlin, Lady Guinevere, Sir Lancelot and the Sword in the Stone. Festival goers are always encouraged to arrive in costume. Geckofest will also feature a quirky walking parade, colorful costume contests, and the ever-popular end-of-the-day dueling street dances that wrap up this light-hearted send-off to summer.

Parking and admission to Geckofest is complimentary and the event is pet and family-friendly.

We had such an amazing time at this show, we saw come incredible performances from the artists on stage, including Bangarang who continued to light up the house!

The production was excellent with Miguel and Don manning the lights and video presentations through out the entire show. The band was led by Justino Lee Walker on guitar, Vinny Svoboda on bass and Michael Garrie on drums. Vocalists were Cess Colindres, Jon Ditty, Senyo Fugar, Chris Pack, and Noah Prescott.

Special thanks to Bungalow for putting the show together along with Crowbar and NO Clubs in Tampa.

See you on the next one!
